Pros over open cell

Closed Cell has an R Value of 7, double the insulation power per inch in comparison to open cell. Is harder and provides structural strength. Is a better sound barrier, and an air and vapor barrier as well.

Best For

Closed cell is hard and dense, it is preferred for metal, brick, stone, concrete, and other surfaces that are prone to sweating and condensation. Foam will attach itself to these surfaces creating an envelop seal.

Combining both

In some situations, you may benefit with both closed cell and open cell. Doing closed cell on metal with added open cell over the top could be a great option. You can discuss this with one of our reps.

Benefits over closed cell

Open cell is soft and sponge like, it expands quickly and is ideal for filling hard to reach places. Although its r-value is lower than closed cell per inch, it is in most cases more affordable even with the addition inches.

Best For

Open cell is preferred for most stick builds, unlike other insulations such as cellulose and fiberglass, foam creates an envelope seal preventing the passing of hot and cold air transfer.
